Weston Bend State Park is the largest Missouri State Park within an hour drive of downtown Kansas City. The park provides a nice diversity of resources–including an off-leash dog park, camping grounds, and a mix of hiking and bicycle paths.
One of the most visited attractions at Weston Bend State Park is the wooden overlook featuring a stunning view of the Missouri River below. The overlook is ADA accessible and is a great place to visit throughout the year to experience the changing of the seasons.
The historical significance of Weston Bend is on full display through various interpretive signs across the property. A former tobacco barn has also been preserved to highlight the history of the tobacco trade in the Weston area.
Take a short walk down the Missouri River Trail to find yourself perched right along the banks of the mighty Missouri River. This trail provides the closest access point to the river within the park and offers dynamic views of the swirling currents of water.
In addition to some great hiking trails, Weston Bend State Park also has a 2.75 mile long paved biking path with great access to the indigenous trees and wildlife of the area. While portions of the path are ADA accessible, there are a couple very steep inclines that make it difficult to traverse.
Weston Bend State Park is located just outside of the historic town of Weston, MO. The town is rich with Irish culture. And, despite having a permanent population of less than 2000 people, it is home to multiple wineries, a distillery, and a microbrewery. This quaint small town also hosts a series of antique shops and museums, which makes it a popular tourist destination.
